Oscars 2018 Special: Student’s Spanish Project Takes Home Big Prize

Sunday— Cinephiles across the globe were shocked Sunday night as the 500-1 underdog for Best Picture, “Una Aventura del Mundo”, took home the night’s biggest prize.  Facing strong contenders in “The Shape of Water” and “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri”, many viewers attributed the stunning outcome to critics’ desire for a fresh take on Hollywood’s classic format.  The film’s five-minute runtime, signature iMovie fade-ins, and emotional performances by actors clearly reading from a script held just behind the camera set the production apart from the highly decorated field.  Director, producer, and star Will Ketterer-Sykes ’20 was elated, thanking the academy, his family, and Señora Ortigosa for their endless support.
